Counsel, US Immigration
New York / San Franciso / Remote
We're looking for Immigration Counsel to join Lighthouse at a pivotal moment. This is a founding legal role: you'll be the attorney who takes our clients from complexity and uncertainty to clarity and status — and who helps us build the legal infrastructure to do that at scale.
You'll own the full immigration legal motion: advising clients on strategy, filing petitions, managing government correspondence, and building the legal workflows and processes that let us serve more clients without sacrificing quality. This isn't a role for someone who wants to hand things off — you'll be in the details of every matter while simultaneously building for leverage.
You might be a strong fit if
You have deep experience with employment-based immigration, particularly startup-relevant visa categories: O-1A, EB-1A, EB-2 NIW, H-1B, and the alphabet of other immigration pathways.
You're a strong writer. You can craft a compelling petition narrative, a clear client memo, and a precise RFE response — and you know how to calibrate your voice for a USCIS officer versus a client who has no idea what a "priority date" means.
You're a rigorous thinker about case strategy. You evaluate the facts, identify the strongest theory, and know when to push for the ambitious path and when to recommend the safe one.
You're detail-obsessed. You catch the error in the I-129 before it goes out. You proof everything. You do finished work.
You're genuinely curious about the clients we serve (their companies, their research, their technology) and you understand that the best petition tells a real story about a real person doing remarkable work.
You've worked in a fast-paced environment: a high-volume immigration firm, an in-house immigration function, or a legal tech company. You know how to move quickly without cutting corners.
We work with founders across AI, robotics, biotech, aerospace, and beyond. You'll need to get up to speed fast on what our clients actually do, and make it shine on the page.
Culture
Lighthouse is a technology-led company. We frequently ask ourselves "How can we automate this?" and that applies to legal workflows as much as anything else. We want attorneys who are excited by that question, not threatened by it.
We're intentionally meeting-light and work in weekly sprints. We entrust you to manage your time and your docket.
We are and seek low-ego, high-throughput people who are a pleasure to be around.
We pride ourselves on attention to detail and the ability to do "finished work" — whether it's a petition, a client memo, or a process doc, you proofread and make it letter perfect.
We ask "why?" every day. We're constantly improving our processes and actively want your feedback on what's broken and what could be better.
Genuine interest in startups, technology, and enabling global talent to build in the U.S.
What we'll trust you to do
You'll own the legal work, the strategy, the drafting, the client relationships, and the quality. A typical week might include:
Managing a docket of active matters across visa categories, from initial strategy calls through approval notices.
Drafting and reviewing O-1A, EB-1A, EB-2 NIW, and H-1B petitions, including support letters, evidence packages, and legal briefs that are genuinely compelling.
Advising founders on their immigration options with clarity and honesty: what's possible, what's risky, and what's right for their situation.
Responding to RFEs and NOIDs with sharp, well-reasoned legal arguments.
Partnering with our ops and product teams to build legal workflows, templates, and processes that improve quality and throughput over time.
Eventually, hiring and supervising additional attorneys and paralegals as our caseload grows.

We sponsor visas, obviously.
Competitive base and equity, scales with experience.
Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
401k with a 3% company match.
